Donations

The Pet Undertaker receives many donations throughout the year, every penny of which goes towards helping secure homes for unwanted dogs/cats, or to Veterinary hospitals who have the technology and expertise to care for very sick or terminally ill pets. Donations to the Pet Undertaker go directly to Living with Pet Bereavement, established in 2009, and the money or goods are then passed directly to those most in need. In 2010 Living With Pet Bereavement donated almost £1,000 to the following causes -

RoyalHeart Greyhound Rescue

Fundraising for 2011 - in aid of the Royal Dick Veterinary Hospital

2011 see's the launch of a very exciting fundraising campaign and one that every pet carer will want to support. This year we are raising funds for the Royal Dick Veterinary School in Edinburgh. The Royal Dick Vet School was chosen due to their pioneering and highly successful work in the field of Oncology (Study of Cancer in pets). 1 in 3 dogs and 1 in 6 cats are diagnosed with cancer, statistics that will strike fear in every pet carer.

Message from Dawn Murray:
In May 2008, my own beautiful rescued Greyhound Ruby, was diagnosed with bone cancer 3 months before her 9th birthday and the most common killer in Greyhounds. Devastated, we were given a choice by our Vet, we either euthanised Ruby or had her referred to the Oncology department at Royal Dick Vet Hospital to see if there was anything they could do. Test started on Ruby the minute she arrived at the Hospital. Within two hours the Veterinary Surgeon confirmed that Ruby's cancer was confined to her hind leg. They explained that they would amputate the leg and the follow up treatment would include 4 to 6 sessions of Chemotherapy. They took the time to explain in detail the affects of the Chemotherapy on dogs and we agreed to this course of action. They also explained that should the operation and Chemotherapy go well, that Ruby could expect to live a good quality of life for up to 9 months - this may not seem long in human terms, but for an elderly dog, it's a fairly long time. I am delighted to say that Ruby is now entering her 4th year cancer free, has a wonderful quality of life and its all down to the care and attention she received at the Royal Dick Veterinary Hospital.

Online Auction - February 2011

Our Online Auction in aid of RoyalHeart Greyhound Rescue which was held on the Living with Pet Bereavement Forum, was a huge success and we raised £630 for the charity. Pictured below is Dawn presenting the cheque to Eddie & Rachel and a couple of their homeless dogs!

The Pet Undertaker had cause to be at the PDSA Tollcross, Glasgow, and we noticed that they had an appeal ongoing for Kitchen Towels. Living With Pet Bereavement went directly to the nearest Supermarket and purchased a large amount of Kitchen Towels for them!
